Following on from our blog last week, the Haringey Independent reports that the MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, Lynne Featherstone, is to meet Chief Superintendent Victor Olisa regarding the disturbing figures released by Moneysupermarket.com referencing the UK’s burglary hot spots and the fact that Muswell Hill has been listed at number 3.
Speaking to the newspaper, Ms Featherstone said “It’s very worrying to see our local area so high in this list of burglary hot spots.” She went on to say, “I have requested an urgent meeting with the borough Commander to see what he thinks of these figures and ask whether his crime statistics match up.” …. “In the meantime, our call for a replacement police base and front counter in the Muswell Hill area continues.”
Liberal Democrat councillor for Fortis Green, Martin Newton, is urging Chief Superintendent Olisa to act on the shocking figures and has also requested the Muswell Hill police station be re-opened. Changes to the capital’s policing last year implemented by Boris Johnson forced the station’s closure.
Mr Newton said, “We are still waiting for a proper police contact point in the Muswell Hill area following the closure of Muswell Hill police station.” …”It’s vital that the public have easy access to our hard working and vigilant safer neighbourhood teams, if they need to report a crime or raise concerns.”
