These are an indication of the security level of a safe and the maximum level of money that should be stored in it. A cash rating is what an underwriter will insure the contents of the safe for and can be multiplied by 10 times for jewellery/valuables. Therefore a £1000 cash rated safe would be suitable to store £10,000 worth of jewellery/valuables.
Obviously the higher the cash rating, the better the quality of the safe, ie the thicker the door and walls of the safe, the better quality the locking mechanism.
When thinking about buying a safe we always advise getting one slightly larger then you currently need as over time you’ll find yourself wanting to put more valuables into it.
Lastly when thinking of a location for your safe, it is best to bolt your safe to a brick wall, ideally an exterior brick wall, and/or a concrete floor.
